Mix Universe is in Early Access!

Folks it's time! Early Access for Mix Universe is now LIVE!

This is an incredible moment this is after working on the game for the past 5 years. There will be followup videos going over all of the new new things in the build, but first you can take the time to explore for yourself and make some good vibes.

Big New Things

  • New Getting Started and Movement in-game tutorials (More to come)

  • Refactored entire audio FX system to use a new builder system which allows FX to be used as a proper audio FX stack. (The order you place modulation elements matters!)

  • There are new landmass voxel nodes to help build out your mix worlds and visualizer nodes.

  • There are really awesome starter sample mixes and feature mixes included in the game. Huge thanks to Eric Buchholz for setting those up! (More on how that was possible later!)

  • An overall pass to just about everything related to visuals has been added.

  • Over 100 new instruments are in the game to choose from now.

  • Layer Switching is more reliable.

  • Automatically connect new nodes based on distance when placed.

New Fixes and Features

  • Links have curves now!

  • Lots of stability updates by fixing various crashes and reducing memory leaks.

  • Copy paste functionality has been improved dramatically, it will retain node height and pivots based on your cursor position.

  • You now can preview sounds from the instrument list.

  • Fixed a lot of issues with note scales and switched minor scales to "Natural Minor" instead of "Melodic Minor"

  • Added visual indicator for long press buttons.

  • Options now save properly

  • Fixed starters activating starters and starters activating starters on patterns.

  • Fixed cases where links would think they are still connected to previous nodes causing cache corruption.

  • Removed visual elements for modulation FX for now.

  • Added visual highlights for selection to make it easier.

  • Added ability to toggle categories in my mixes panels.

  • Added category drop down when going to save a mix.

  • And probably a bunch of other little things I didn't write down.

Known Big Issues

I think it’s important as we go through the Early Access process to be up front about known issues in the game. These are the top 3 critical ones I know about that I’ll be working to try and fix as soon as I can.

  • Sometimes when editing workshop items or saving them, the game can crash. Still investigating a reproducible case.

  • When double clicking to populate changes to all selected nodes, a rare crash may occur

  • There is a known memory leak that gets worse after about 300k sound plays in a session. If you start experience lag after a long play session, restarting the game should fix it. I am working to isolate this issue so I can get a proper solve.

There are about 90 known bugs and feature requests that I am chewing through and organizing. However the basic roadmap at this time is to focus on In-Game Tutorials and Bug Fixes for the first month here after launch. Then after, I will have more information on the exact details of what is coming down the pipe. Some really cool stuff for sure!!
